I just got back from Washington, D.C. visitng some friends of mine. A couple notes on that trip. First of all, a year ago I would have never been able to get on a plane. Ever. Especially one that had a layover in HOTlanta. Traveling has been a big perk of this stupid ostomy. Im going to Portland next month too. I can’t wait. The downfalls of traveling…of course…I had a leak the first day I was in D.C. Which was horrible because I was all out of my element and didn’t have MY stuff where I wanted it. Luckily, the leak was where I was staying, and not while we were walking about. Which brings me to my next topic.
I put on a new wafer/bag system the day before I left. I felt like a day would be enough time to test it out, before I took it on Vacation. This leak, was with the new system.

The Moldable Wafer
The new system was Convatec’s Moldable Wafer, which is a giant piece of shit with a capital “S” for SHIT. Seriously…one day, I had a leak and not just a leak but it was about to spew from EVERY corner on the dang thing. If you don’t know what I’m talking about Convatec made a new type of wafer where you just roll back the part of the wafer that you normally would cut to size. In theory, you roll it back over and it custom forms to your stoma. Great Idea right? Well first it didn’t exactly roll nicely, and it def did not unroll nicely. It was like trying to unroll stoma paste. Anyway, The whole part that is normally where you put paste or a ring, is also sticky. Good Idea right? Well clearly that part did not stick so well. Ugh what a disapointment. I was even willing to use their stupid bags that don’t turn like Coloplast bags do, but I was willing to do it. But after that leak, that GIANT leak, I will never wear that thing again. Seriously if I had waited any longer, it would have just fallen off because poo would have broken all the seals. It was horrible.
So traveling was good thanks ostomy. Convatec sucks.
Well, it sucks you found out the hard way this system doesn’t work for you, but I’m thankful for the heads up. Keep the bag reviews coming! 🙂
(BTW, I think you need to change the company name in your heading.)
Congrats on your newfound ability to travel; that’s something I’m looking forward to when I get my damn colon out.
