So I was feeling daring last night. I was feeling confident. I was feeling like, hey I got this.
I DO WHAT I WANT
So I moseyed into the kitchen, and into the cupboard full of food that I can’t eat…and I pulled out something I have missed. I pulled out something that has been quietly calling to me for a few months now, that I was scared of.
Yea. I did it. I ate popcorn. BOOYA.
Its the morning after and trust me…there was not a blockage last night. So far so good. Oh how I missed my light fluffy friend. Now, don’t worry, I’m not gonna go all crazy town here and eat popcorn like its going out of style (oh crap, what if it IS going out of style?!) I’m just chalking this one up to a win so far.
But I’m still afraid of lettuce.
Congrats. For the first year after I got my ostomy Popcorn landed me in the hospital a total of 3 times with a blockage. They are not fun at all! Trust me, I will spare you the deals. But now it doesn’t do a thing for me. I don’t get it like it going out of style, it’s all in moderation.
As for lettuce, I don’t have a problem at all with iceburg, but Roman and spinach are the devil! But I love them sooo much. Sometimes you just have to think to yourself, is the juice worth the squeeze…..
I ate iceberg lettuce like crazy and popcorn in moderation while I had my ostomy. I just chewed really well. I never had a problem with it. However, eating popcorn after take down is an interesting thing. Being the pouch doesn’t push stool out like a colon does, I have found that after eating popcorn and having a bowel movement, there will be little sharp poking sensations in my butt, and what do you know if it isn’t little hard casings of the popcorn kernel. Lovely. Just a warning. 🙂
