Sometimes there are just songs that speak to you. A song that is so lyrically brilliant that it can bring you to tears in the middle of a workout. Today, while doing some interval training on my treadmill…I found that song. Perhaps I should write itunes shuffle a thank you for its impeccable timing. Literal tears in the eyes as I’m attempting to run.
That song…(I can’t even say this with a straight face) was Not Afraid by Eminem.
There is one verse that sorta has NOTHING to do with my life, but when I was running and it was hard it all made perfect sense.

And I just can’t keep living this way
So starting today, I’m breaking out of this cage
I’m standing up, Imma face my demons
I’m manning up, Imma hold my ground
I’ve had enough, now I’m so fed up
Time to put my life back together right now

Now this song is about a hardcore drug problem and a dead friend, but in my own way for me that tiny part of it was about being fat, being sick, and being ready to start over.
So, thank you Eminem you lyrical wonder, you. Eminem, my homie from down the street.*

Don’t ask my why this song got to me. Its rather silly actually. But I think I get emotional when I work out. Its this mish-mosh of HATING what I’m doing, but knowing its a necessary evil. I think all kinds of emotions surface, it kinda works like this:
Christina Aguilera – Fighter
I CAN SO DO THIS. HELL YEA IMMA FIGHTER. YOU CAN GET ME DOWN. BAM BAM BAM.  CHRISTINA AND I HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON. WE SHOULD BE FRIENDS.

Its all kinda something like that. Lets just say I’m not in a right mind when I’m working out. Hence the “tears” over Eminem. Hey…we all have our thing.

*I too live off of 8 mile. I do not however live in Detroit. Its a decent hike to Eminem’s 8 mile. But I always wave and say hi to him when I roll in his hood.
