So yesterday started out….poopy. Literally. Its my own fault.
So the night before I knew that the seal on my wafer wasn’t totally stuck to my skin. But this happens, however normally I’m gtg. However…apparently this time was different because I woke up in the morning with a way broken seal, and poop on myself as well as my blanket. GROSS.
Its just this feeling of…ugh. Its no longer traumatizing (though this is only my second leak) its just more of, “gawd this is my life and now its going to take forever to clean up, so much for my sleeping in”.
But life goes on. I guess.
On another depressing note..guess what, I’m still fat.
Remember everyone saying “oh with an ileo you’ll lose weight like crazy” FALSE
“Once you’re off the steroids you’ll drop that weight like crazy” FALSE
I never have lost weight after steroids, not right away at least. Having an ileo has done NOTHING for weight loss. I’m starting to get a bit worried because I have to lose weight before my surgery. But nothing is working. I tried nutrisystem which I know someone in real life who SWEARS by it, and it makes me dizzy. Seriously dizzy all day everyday to the point where I’m gonna pass out. So yea, that didn’t work.
I do more than just sit on my ass, my job requires a fair amount of walking and stairs but I still can’t do a lot of hardcore exercise. So basically…I feel like I’m totally out of options. I can’t really postpone the surgery because in Jan I have to repay my deductible and that’s wicked expensive. I don’t know what to do anymore.
The best part of waking up is Folgers in you… I mean your wafer sticking to your body. I’m sorry to hear. I’ve been there a couple times myself. Most of the time it’s my fault too, I know I should change it before bed but I get to lazy and pay the price. As for losting weight, I never lost weight with the ileo, however, after my reconnection is when I lost weight like crazy.
I think possible some of your problem with weight loss is your body went through massive shock when your docs played “operation” with your intestines. What I’ve been told is it sometime takes about 6 months for your brain and body to figure out a complete game plan to figure out how to funtion properly.
Thankfully your doc’s didn’t remove your funny bone while playing “Operation.” Keep your chin up and just keep doing your best.
Yea the only problem with that is that if I dont drop the fat I dont get the next step.
Although it is encouraging that people lost during the reconnection.
I’m getting really pissed that all during my stint with colitis all i’ve done is gain weight when the rest of the world gets all sickly skinny….story of my life.
I would take malnutrition over fat any day.
I should really spell check…
Malnutrition isn’t to much fun.. been there. I would try to stir clean of carbohydrates. If you come from Italian/Sicilian descent I know it’s damn near impossible but it’s worth trying.
Have you ever tried livestrong.com’s The Daily Plate. It bascially just tracks your calories but no food is off limits. Also, it’s free. My husband and I both lost quite a bit of weight through it. The website makes it very easy and quick to track your calories. Almost every food/restaurant is in there, too. Good luck! You can do it.
I think I’m gonna try sparkpeople.com They have a mobile app so I think it will be easier to track what I’m doing. I talked to my nurse again, freaked out, and was like “WHAT IF I DON”T LOSE A POUND?” and she said that, he will still probably do the surgery, but its just going to be a lot harder on us both. So I’m not done trying yet, but I’m not exactly hopeful either. I did meet a rad chick through this site who has lost a ton of weight even while having these surgeries so shes giving me a lot of great advice, so I’m hoping I can just do what she did!
Does your health plan offer diet & nutrition services? Maybe they can help….
Good luck!
Hi Russ,
I highly doubt it. My insurance is ok with covering major surgery but basically won’t cover anything to prevent it. Like for instance, they dont cover birth control, but they’ll cover all costs of baby birthing. They won’t cover massage/chiropractic care for my back but they covered a breast reduction. Its really quite backwards. I’ll look into it but I’m not gonna hold my breath. Good suggestion though.
Um…has no one at your insurance yet discovered that birth control is a hell of a lot cheaper than a baby being born? That is bass ackwards, dude.
I don’t lose weight after stopping ‘roids, either. If that’s any consolation. That weight just … sticks. I effing hate it. I’m also in the “post-op can’t do shit” world right now, so I also feel that pain. It’s like, I have to eat, but I can’t move a ton so I don’t want to eat because it all stays and doesn’t want to leave. Meanwhile I have a friend who just had surgery and she lost 15 pounds. Not fair. Not fair at all.
Congrats on the popcorn success though! Sometimes the simple pleasures are nice.
